“Put Yourself First and Reap the Benefits: Uncover a Healthier You through Self-Care!”
As our lives get increasingly more hectic, the need for self-care is becoming more and more apparent. Contrary to popular belief, self-care is not about being selfish or self-indulgent. It is about taking care of oneself in order to be healthy mentally, physically, and emotionally.
Paula Gill Lopez, PhD, an associate professor in the department of psychological and educational consultation at Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut, says that the need for self-care is obvious in light of the current epidemic of anxiety and depression.
Kelsey Patel, a Los Angeles-based wellness expert, further explains that self-care is an important tool for managing daily stressors, such as work stress and the pressure to keep up with the ever-accelerating pace of life. People are feeling increasingly lonelier and overwhelmed, and self-care is a way to take a break and be kind to ourselves.
Self-care can look different for everyone, but it should always promote health and happiness. It can include anything from maintaining a regular sleep routine, to eating healthily, to doing hobbies or expressing gratitude. Research suggests that self-care can help us be more resilient, live longer, and become better equipped to manage stress.
So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, don’t forget to take a minute and prioritize your own self-care.
